On page 2 of the rules, the last paragraph mentions the use of "chemicals" in the first sentence. Are these chemicals the garage found items such as paint thinner? Or can laboratory chemicals be used? How about ion exchange resin?

The rules state that the treatment system must be made from items found in a typical garage; since most people do not store most laboratory chemicals in their garages, these items will not be allowed.  If ion exchange resin can be purchased through the Home Depot, it can be included as an ingredient.  I was able to find these properties from Home Depot in water softeners but it is recommended that you are aware of what these kinds of products could do to the other parameters of your water quality.
